with visiting artist Deyra Hanife Altan

This evening, we entreat you to encounter shadows of Elsewhere spirits on a visit to the 3rd floor ghost room. There, artist Derya Hanife Altan, in collaboration with Casey Droege, has created an honorarium to the flitting spirits that move amidst Elsewhere's historic architectures and endlessly reinvented memories. This newly altered room tells the collective story of uncanny experiences with these presences from the past through fabric portraits and subtle carvings in the already-peeling wallpaper. These gentle transformations unveil artist and history as collaborative makers, while the entire room discovers a place for the spirits' resilient and incongruous tenancy.
Visitations to the ghost room with Derya will occur every 20 minutes. Schedule your visitation with an Elsewhere representative in 608. Meanwhile, engage in a tactile process experience of making "tribal poofs," or talismans of woven ribbon in the fabric workshop. This participatory work will be installed in Elsewhere upon completion.
